Police: Serial robber wears fake beard

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police say the suspect involved in a robbery Wednesday morning is also responsible for 11 other robberies throughout the city.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said an unknown black male entered the Auto Zone store located in the 2200 block of Kecoughtan Road around 2:30 p.m. and brandished a handgun, demanding money. He was able to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash toward Wythe Parkway.

According to Shackelford, this isn’t the first time the same suspect has robbed that very same shop. In fact, the suspect is also responsible for nine other various robberies throughout the city.

The suspect is said to have robbed the following stores:

• 12/26/11 at the Dollar General located in the 1900 block of East Pembroke Avenue
• 12/26/11 at the Family Dollar located in the 2300 block of Kecoughtan Road.
• 12/31/11 at the Hardees located in the 8100 block of Newmarket Drive.
• 1/6/12 at the Family Dollar located in the 2000 block of Nickerson Boulevard.
• 1/6/12 at the Hardees located in the 200 block of South Mallory Street
• 1/21/12 at the Advance Auto located in the 2200 block of Andrews Boulevard.
• 2/5/12 at the Family Dollar in the 2000 block of Nickerson Boulevard.
• 3/2/12 at the Family Dollar in the 2000 block of Nickerson Boulevard.
• 4/6/12 at the Advance Auto in the 800 block of LaSalle Avenue
• 4/29/12 at the Long John Silvers located in the 900 block of Big Bethel Road
• 5/9/12 at the Auto Zone located in the 2200 block of Kecoughtan Road.
• 5/30/12 at the Auto Zone located in the 2200 block of Kecoughtan Road.

According to police, the suspect is described as standing 5’5” and in his early 30s. He was last seen wearing a white button up shirt with a plaid shirt underneath, dark jeans, white tennis shoes, yellow safety glasses and a fake beard in Wednesday’s robbery.
