Police: Man beat child with switch

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a Suffolk man is behind bars on abuse and neglect charges after he allegedly beat a child with a switch last month.
According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, 31-year-old Deron Thomas Brown was arrested Jan. 9 for the beating that occurred on or about Dec. 6, which left welts on the child's body.
Brown has been charged with abuse and neglect of children, cruelty and injuries to children and contempt of court for an unrelated case in Portsmouth.
