SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk Police have responded to a home twice for reports of a child wandering around alone and now a 27-year-old woman is in custody.
Debbie George with the City of Suffolk told WAVY.com the two-year-old child was recently spotted wandering in only a diaper and t-shirt with no shoes in the 3800 block of Pughsville Road on June 29. The temperature in Suffolk was 99 degrees when officers found the child in the street.
Ashley Courtney Sherrill was inside a trailer when police arrived, George said.
This was the second time police responded to a report of children wandering on their own at that home.
Police arrested Sherrill and charged her with cruelty and injuries to children Monday. Child Protective Services was also notified of the incident.
