NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - An 18-year-old is behind bars after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at a crowd of people on New Year's Day.
According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, the suspect, Novian Best, was involved in a dispute at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 1. During the dispute, he allegedly pointed a gun at a group of people at a parking lot and left the area.
Best ran from the area but officers were later able to locate him and place him in custody. Thurston said a loaded .9 mm handgun was found in a car and was identified as the gun that was used in the incident.
Best, of Newport News, was charged with one count of brandishing a firearm, reckless handling of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest.
