NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A man has been charged with malicious wounding after police say he assaulted another man over an incident regarding sleep Saturday.
Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com a 22-year-old man reported being assaulted by Justin Byars, 21, of Newport News around noon. The victim told police Byars went to the apartment the victim was staying at and punched the victim in the head before throwing him into a glass aquarium.
The assault caused the victim to receive several lacerations to his hand and forearm that required stitches.
“The assault stemmed from an incident earlier in the day when the victim woke up the suspect from his sleep,” McPherson said.
Byars was arrested Sunday and was charged with one count of malicious wounding.
