PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth Police have arrested a man on charges he assaulted officers during a disturbance Friday.
Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department told WAVY.com officers were called to the Wal-Mart in the 1000 block of Frederick Boulevard for a report of an intoxicated and disorderly man inside the store.
Upon arrival, officers found a male suspect yelling and causing a disturbance. The suspect, identified as Jimmy Lee Beale, fought the officers as they were trying to arrest him, Clark said.
Beale ran from the store and into heavy traffic before he was finally taken into custody. The officers were not seriously injured.
Beale has been charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, unlawful purchase or possession of alcohol, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
