NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Police have identified a suspect believed to be involved in a shooting Wednesday morning near a Norfolk elementary school.
Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department said the shooting occurred in the 4500 block of Robin Hood Road at 10:54 a.m.
One male victim was transported to a local hospital and is in serious condition as of Wednesday afternoon.
Parker-Chesson said the suspect has been identified as Alexic Tariq Russell, who is facing charges of malicious wounding, use of firearm, possession of firearm by felon and discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.
As a result of the shooting, Sherwood Forest Elementary School went on lockdown as a precaution around 10:50 a.m., Elizabeth Mather with Norfolk Public Schools said. The lockdown was lifted at 11:10 a.m.
Russell is described as standing 6'2", weighing 225 pounds with short, curly black hair and a light facial beared. He is considered armed and dangerous.
