NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a 15-year-old was charged Wednesday in the shooting death of a 13-year-old.

According to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department, the juvenile was arrested and charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

McPherson says the suspect is being held in juvenile detention.

Lamonee Johnson-Chisholm was gunned down Nov. 18 while walking with a friend near the intersection of 31st Street and Orcutt Avenue just after 4 p.m.. Johnson-Chisholm was transported to a local hospital where he passed away.

His 15-year-old friend suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Johnson-Chisholm's mother,  Quintonia Chisholm spoke with WAVY.com earlier this month and said her son had called her minutes after being shot.

"I said, 'Where are you?' and he said, 'I'm on Orcutt Avenue in front of Huntington Middle School.' He said, 'You gotta come find me.' [I said,] 'I'm on my way,'" Chisholm said.

Chisholm said she then took off running with her cell phone in hand down the street to help her youngest of two sons.

"I got there and he was laying there. So I laid there with him. I kissed his face over and over and I said, 'Mommy's right here. I'm right here. I love you,'" Chisholm said.

Chisholm said she arrived to the scene before police.

"They picked me up and took me across the street and said I could not come back across the line. I looked over and saw them pumping his chest. I lost it. I ran back over to get him and they put me in handcuffs in the back of the car," Chisholm said.
