VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A cross dedicated to a fallen Virginia Beach police officer was stolen.

The cross was honoring the place where Rodney Pocceschi was killed in June 2003 on Dam Neck Road near London Bridge Road. Pocceschi got into a shootout with a robbery suspect.

Family and friends, who put up the cross, are heartbroken.

"It means a lot to all of us who've been here and done things out here," Virginia Beach police officer Kevin Pappas said. "Just to desecrate something like this in general... it's pretty tough. Someone lost their life out here, a good dude. A good guy lost his life [on that spot]."
