NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police are asking for help in catching a man who robbed a local fast food restaurant wearing a fake beard.
According to Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division, officers were dispatched to the Bojangles in the 1000 block of West Mercury Boulevard for a report of a robbery. An unknown black male entered the restaurant around 8:15 p.m. and displayed a handgun as he demanded money.
He was able to escape through a back door and was last seen running on foot toward the back of the restaurant. No one was injured.
The suspect has been described as being in his 30s, standing about 5’6” and weighing 165 to 170 pounds with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a tan/olive green fisherman’s hat, black long sleeved shirt, faded jeans sunglasses.
He also tried to hide his identity by wearing a fake beard.
At this time, investigators are working to determine if the suspect is the same one responsible for more than two dozen robberies in the Newport News, Hampton and York County areas within the past year.
