NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News Police are investigating after witnesses claim a male suspect opened a door and began shooting into an apartment Monday.
Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com a 21-year-old man was injured in the shooting around 3:15 a.m. in the 100 block of Delmar Lane.
“Preliminary information received at the scene was that the victim and some other individuals were in the living room drinking when an unknown [black male] opened the front door and shot into the apartment,” McPherson said.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, McPherson said. Just after 9 a.m. she said the victim was in critical condition.
He does not live at the apartment.
