SUFFOLK, Va (WAVY) - A man is facing a child endangerment charge after the gun he was holding went off during a domestic disturbance, according to police.
Debbie George with the City of Suffolk told WAVY.com the incident occurred Saturday evening when Robert Foote was target shooting. Sometime during the target shooting, Foote got into an argument with his estranged wife.
When the woman began to leave in a vehicle, George said Foote tried to grab a two-year-old through the window and was also trying to put his gun in his holster at the same time.
The gun then reportedly went off and Foote shot himself in the leg, George said.
Foote was arrested and charged with child endangerment, abuse and neglect of children, reckless handling of a firearm and violation of provisions of a protective order.
George said it’s believed Foote was under the influence of alcohol.
