SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Suffolk man will spend nearly two decades behind bars after he shot his young son when confronting his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
According to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Marie Walls, Michael Anthony Goodman was sentenced to 25 years behind bars with all but six years and 11 months suspended in connection to the July 2012 shooting.
Goodman received a call that his child’s mother was seeing someone else, Walls told WAVY.com. Goodman then took a gun, drove to the Suffolk neighborhood and confronted the man and his ex-girlfriend.
As Goodman was shooting at the man, he ultimately shot his 3-year-old son.
In November, Goodman pled guilty to attempted malicious wounding, malicious wounding, child abuse: disregard for life, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and child abuse: serious injury.
