SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Suffolk man pleaded guilty in court Thursday to involuntary manslaughter in connection with his girlfriend's death.

According to Heather Shelton with the Suffolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, William Daniel Conroy, Jr. also pleaded guilty to distributing Fentanyl, a pain reliever. The plea has been taken under advisement by the judge and has not been fully accepted yet, says Shelton.

Conroy was arrested in March of this year for the April 2011 death of his girlfriend at the time, Briley Compton. Toxicology reports showed Compton had died from a mixture of over-the-counter cold medication and a prescription painkiller.

When medics responded to Conroy's home, they were told Compton had fallen from a boat in the backyard and hit her head.

"We love her. We miss her every single day, and we'll carry her beautiful smile in our hearts forever. We are praying for everyone involved," Compton's mother told WAVY.com in March.
