Man pleads guilty in Coast Guard bribe

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - An Alabama businessman pleaded guilty in court Wednesday to wire fraud and paying bribes to a former Coast Guard petty officer.
Huffman Earl Monk, 52, of Brookwood, Ala. was indicted in May on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and paying bribes to a public official, Nathan Dunn.
Peter Carr with the U.S. Attorney's Office said Dunn received more than $200,000 in bribes from Monk while he worked as a transportation officer for U.S. Coast Guard.
Dunn not only accepted the bribes, but also created fraudulent contracts for shipments that did not exist.
Monk could face a maximum of 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in April.
