PD: Man responsible for 20 break-ins

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) - Police say a 30-year-old Elizabeth City man is responsible for approximately 20 car break-ins in the area of Elizabeth City State University.

According to Chief Eddie Buffaloe with the Elizabeth City Police Department, Tyrese A. Cofield was arrested Dec. 16 when an officer responded to suspicious activity at 1144 North Road St.

Cofield was taken into custody and questioned regarding a Dec. 10 car break-in in the area of the 1700 block of Weeksville Road.

Further investigation revealed Cofield is allegedly responsible for approximately 20 other car break-ins in the area of ECSU.

Campus police are conducting a separate investigation.

Additionally, Cofield is being considered a suspect in a larceny of a Bob Cat tractor in the area where he was arrested Dec. 16. Charges are pending in that case.

As of Dec. 19, Cofield was charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny after breaking and entering in connection with the Dec. 10 larceny.

Cofield is behind bars under a $4,000 bond.
