VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a man responsible for shooting at an occupied car late Thursday evening is behind bars.
According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, officers in the area of the 800 block of Chimney Hill Parkway heard several gunshots at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Officers saw a white car driving rapidly down the street and pulled its occupants over. The three occupants were victims of a shooting and said they were being followed by a man throughout the Chimney Hill neighborhood.
Moyers said the victims told officers they tried to elude the suspect that was following them, at which point the suspect fired several shots at their vehicle.
Following the investigation, Moyers said it was uncovered the suspect, 37-year-old David Lee Stanley Whitehurst is the father of two victims in the car and is the estranged husband of another victim.
Whitehurst, of Virginia Beach, has been charged with three counts of attempted malicious assault and three counts of use of firearm. Moyers said he is being held behind bars without bond.
