Man charged in 2 Hampton robberies

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police have a man in custody in connection to two robberies that occurred within 15 minutes of each other Tuesday.

Cpl. Jason Price, spokesman for the Hampton Police Division, said the first robbery occurred at Papa John’s Pizza located in the 2200 block of Kecoughtan Road just before 11 p.m. About 15 minutes later, the 7-Eleven in the 2600 block of Kecoughtan Road was robbed.

In both instances, the suspect entered the store armed with a knife and demanded money. He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Price said officers were able to locate the suspect, Stacy Sawyer, 36, of Hampton near the intersection of Bay Avenue and Chesterfield Road. Sawyer has been charged with two counts of robbery and is incarcerated at the Hampton City Jail.
