DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - A man is in custody for allegedly threatening people at the Cape Hatteras Secondary School.
According to Steve Hoggard with the Dare County Sheriff's Office, the school's resource officer was tipped off Feb. 11 about threats made against several persons at the school. It is not known whether those threatened were students or personnel.
Hoggard said a search warrant was executed on the suspect's home where deputies seized several items and arrested the man in question.
No firearms or destructive devices were found, according to Hoggard.
Stefan Schwartz, 26, was arrested for making a false report that a mass violence is going to occur on property, injury to personal property and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hoggard said additional deputies were already present at area schools prior to these threats due to the Newtown elementary school shootings last year.
He said additional deputy patrols and presence have been added since Schwartz's threats.
