KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) - A Kill Devil Hills man and a burglar got into a scuffle when the man came home to find his home broken into Thursday.
According to Gary Britt with Kill Devil Hills Police, Earl Winfree and his girlfriend came home to a residence in the 300 block of West Bickett Street and realized someone had broken in when they saw a flashlight moving around inside.
Winfree walked in to find unarmed 17-year-old Julian Goulet inside of his home. Goulet told Winfree he meant to go to a house next door then tried to run away. As WInfree's girlfriend called 911, Winfree subdued Goulet until police arrived. Goulet suffered minor injuries.
"It was one of those rare occasions where the suspect was probably quite glad to see the police show up," detective Kevin Davey said.
Goulet was charged with second degree burglary and possession of stolen property. He was placed under a $10,000 bond.
