HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police are seeking help in locating two suspects responsible for shooting a store employee late Thursday night, resulting in his death.
Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division said officers were dispatched to Roy's Quick Serve located in the 2100 block of West Pembroke Avenue shortly before midnight for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries just before 2:30 a.m.. He has been identified as Mohammad Zidan, 50, of Hampton.
Further investigation revealed Zidan was an employee of the Roy's Quick Serve and was inside the business when he was shot. Two black males wearing masks reportedly entered the store, displayed firearms and demanded money from an employee.
Zidan was then shot and the suspects fled the business on foot. It is unknown if they took anything from the store.
Several of Zidan's customers were heartbroken to hear about his death on Friday. Many stopped by the store to pay their respects.
"It hurt and it's like one of my family members is gone," customer Norma Saif said.
"It's nonsense," customer Deborah Sedgwick said. "It's just too much of this going on. It's too much murdering going on. It doesn't matter who you are nobody should die like this."
Zidan leaves behind two daughters and four sons.
Friends say this kind of tragedy is something his family has gone through in the past. A few years ago, friends say Zidan's son was robbed and shot at one of his convenience stores, leaving him handicapped.
Since then, customers were worried about Zidan's safety during late night hours.
"I had just said to him [that] he needed cameras outside," Sedgwick said.
Anyone with information on Ziden's death is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or the Hampton Police Division at 757-727-6111.
