Man sentenced in Wal-Mart shootout

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Hampton man was sentenced Tuesday to more than five years in prison for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

According to Peter Carr with the U.S. Attorney's Office, 24-year-old Randell L. Woods is facing 66 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release.

Woods pleaded guilty June 11, 2012 to planning a drug delivery. Carr said Woods planned to distribute drugs at a Hampton Wal-Mart parking lot on Dec. 27, 2011.

That evening, Woods worked with David Andrews to distribute the drugs. Carr said during the delivery, 25 shots were exchanged between them and Christopher Vinson due to an argument.

Woods and Andrews took cover at Best Western near Wal-Mart and surrendered to police following a seven-hour stand-off.

Vinson was sentenced in September 2012 to eight years in prison and Andrews was sentenced the same month to 19 years in prison.

The FBI assisted the Hampton Police Division during the investigation.
