Suspect sought in Portsmouth shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of Lakeview Drive Wednesday night.
Portsmouth dispatchers received the call around 9:30 p.m.
Jan Westerbeck with the Portsmouth Police Department said a 20-year-old was shot in the hip and was transported to Norfolk General Hospital where he is expected to recover.
An investigation revealed that the victim was trying to enter his home through a side door when the suspect approached him. Westerbeck says the two became involved in a struggle and the suspect ran away after gun was fired.
The suspect is described as 6-foot-1 man weighing 180 pounds. He was wearing all black at the time and his face was covered by a mask.
A motive is not known at the time.
