CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - An 89-year-old man is in custody after police say he shot and killed a 53-year-old man Tuesday night.
Kelly O’Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department told WAVY.com the shooting occurred in the 1700 block of Hines Street around 8:30 p.m. Officers arrived to find the victim, identified by police as Lionel Phillips, shot one time in the chest.
Phillips was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he later died.
The suspect, 89-year-old John Boyd, was charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
A witness told police the two knew each other, according to O'Sullivan.
