HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A 27-year-old man is facing several charges after troopers say he refused to pull over during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said troopers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban for speeding along Interstate 64 in the Hampton area. When the driver refused to pull over, a chase ensued.
According to Anaya, the vehicle continued on Interstate 64 to southbound Interstate 664, exiting at Power Point Parkway. The driver tried to make a left turn to back onto Interstate 664 and spun out of control, striking a trooper’s vehicle.
The driver then fled onto Interstate 664 and exited at Aberdeen Road where he wrecked the vehicle. Anaya said the driver then fled on foot and as he was running, tried to jump over a fence and a firearm fell to the ground.
He was arrested and has been identified as Marcus Antonio Wilkins of Hampton. Anaya said Wilkins suffered minor injuries and was transported to Riverside Hospital. Wilkins is facing charges of possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, distribution of narcotics, felony evade and elude, reckless driving, speeding and driving while suspended.
