AVON, N.C. (WAVY) - A man could face federal charges for stealing items from a North Carolina post office, according to deputies.
J.D. Doughtie with the Dare County Sheriff's Office said a deputy responded to a suspicious vehicle call Jan. 7 on Ocean View Drive. When he got there, he heard glass breaking in the direction of the Avon Post Office. Once he got to the post office, the deputy reported there had been a break-in and several items were missing.
Doughtie said deputies later saw the suspicious vehicle on NC-12 and pulled over its driver, 33-year-old Marquis Wade Charity. Deputies uncovered the missing items from the post office from the car Charity had been driving and charged him with felony breaking and entering.
Charity could be facing federal charges pending an investigation by the Postal Inspectors.
