VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say charges are pending in the death of a woman struck and killed by a man driving out of a parking space Christmas Eve.
According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, police were called to the Providence Square Shopping Center in the 5200 block of Providence Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24.
Moyers said a Jeep Cherokee was backing out of parking space while two victims were standing outside of their car in a parking spot adjacent to the Jeep's.
One of the victims was in a wheelchair and the other was not. The driver of the Jeep's foot got entangled in the car's accelerator as he drove forward into the two victims, trapping them between their own car and the Jeep, according to Moyers.
Police said a woman seated in a wheelchair was struck, as was a second victim, her husband, who was attempting to help her.
The victim has been identified as 74-year-old Dalisay Mariano Francisco of Virginia Beach, who passed away shortly after the accident at a local hospital.
Her husband was treated at the scene.
Moyers said charges are pending.
