NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police have arrested a 47-year-old woman after officers say she threatened to obtain C4 explosives and blow up the City of Newport News Pier.

According to Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department, officers responded to Jefferson Avenue Wednesday afternoon in reference to a bomb threat against the pier. According to a complainant, the complainant and a Community Service Board worker attempted to assist Julie Ireland. At some time, Ireland allegedly became irate and threatened to obtain C4 explosives in order to blow up the pier.

Eley said officers had encountered Ireland earlier in the morning. Around 7:45 a.m., Ireland was ticketed for trespassing and littering on the posted private section of the pier property. She reportedly left the property.

Officers were able to locate Ireland later in New Bern, N.C. sleeping in the middle of King Lincoln Park. Ireland was arrested and charged with bomb/burn threat.
