HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A second arrest has been made in connection to a deadly shooting along Barfoot Circle in Hampton Wednesday morning.

According to Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division, officers located 35-year-old Latonya Marie Birsner suffering from a single gunshot wound in the upper torso inside a home in the first block of Barfoot Circle near Old Buckroe Road just before 11:30 am. Birsner, of the 400 block of Rogers Avenue, was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:13 p.m.

Shackelford says Birsner was visiting a friend at the Barfoot Circle home when she witnessed a domestic dispute between the suspect, 24-year-old Renaldo Garcia Winship, and the mother of Winship's two children who were in the home at the time of the shooting.

Police say Birsner tried to break up the argument on the mother's behalf when she was shot. According to Shackelford, Winship, of the first block of North Mary Peake Boulevard, then fled the scene.

He has been charged with one count of murder, one count of use of firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of burglary while armed and one count of domestic assault and battery.

Thursday, Shackelford said officers arrested 23-year-old Shakeemah Dainelle Walker of Hampton and charged her with accessory after the fact of murder. Shackelford was unable to release details as to why Walker was arrested and charged due to the impending prosecution.

The children who were present, aged 3 and 5, are in the care of a relative.
