GATES COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - Deputies say more than a dozen dogs in poor condition were found in a Gates County, N.C. backyard Friday.
According to Sheriff Edward Webb with the Gates County Sheriff's Office, a tip led deputies to Daniels Road in Corapeake.
There, they found some animals in poor shape, unfed and showing wounds. Webb said he is unsure whether the 19 dogs were being used for dog fighting.
Webb said due to the capacity at the Tri County Animal Shelter, deputies are working to find a place for the dogs.
A local veterinarian examined the dogs Friday and will determine whether animal cruelty charges should be pressed against the owners.
Friday's discovery comes just one day after 80 dogs were seized from several properties in neighboring Pasquotank County in North Carolina. Webb said he will speak to the Pasquotank Sheriff's Office to determine whether the incidents are related.
Deputies in Pasquotank County said the Pit Bulls found there Thursday were being used for dog fighting.
