Hampton man wanted for fatal JCC crash

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a Hampton man is wanted on multiple charges including DWI and involuntary manslaughter for his role in a 2011 crash that killed one child.

According to Major Steve Rubino with the James City County Police Department, 37-year-old Gary Jerome Turner was charged by a Grand Jury in May on maiming while DWI, two counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of child neglect, DWI and improper brakes.

Rubino said Turner was driving a Ford minivan westbound on John Tyler Highway shortly after 8 p.m. in August 2011 when he lost control for "some unknown reason and ran off the road," rolling numerous times.

The minivan, carrying seven occupants including several children, then struck a dump truck driving east.

The truck driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and 14-year-old Brashawnta Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene .

Turner is described as standing 5'10", weighing 165 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was on Andrews Boulevard in Hampton.
