15 indicted in "Snowman" drug op

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say 11 men were arrested and four are still wanted following a "Snowman" narcotics operation in Portsmouth.

According to Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department, the indictments were handed down by a Grand Jury March 7.

The indictments came after following an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit that began looking into street-level drug distribution in January 2013. 

Clark said distributors in several Portsmouth neighborhoods were targeted after evidence of cocaine, marijuana and heroin was found.

The dealers were found working in the Southside, Prentis Park, Prentis Place, Cradock, Douglass Park and Port Norfolk neighborhoods.

The following individuals were arrested:

• Larry Darnell Booker, Jr., 37 of the 2700 block of Arcadia Avenue, Portsmouth, two counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin
• John Bellamy, 69 of the 1900 block of Deep Creek Boulevard, Portsmouth, one count possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Jamal Orlando Brown, 29 of the 200 block of Plover Drive, Portsmouth, three counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Claude Quinton Brooks, Jr., 27 of the 2000 block of Greenwood Drive, Portsmouth, two counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana
• Ronald Antonio White, 41 of the 300 block of Ansell Avenue, Portsmouth, four counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Todd Randolph Eley, 43 of the 400 block of Eureka Loop, Newport News, four counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Yul Bland, 48 of the 40 block of Hobson Street, Portsmouth, one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Kwill Acari Carthen, 19 of the 800 block of Portsmouth Boulevard, Portsmouth, one count possession with intent to distribute marijuana
• Anthony Cuffee, 52 of the 100 block of Main Street, Portsmouth, one count possession with intent to distribute cocaine
• Lemuel B. Howard, 49 of the 100 block of Dale Drive, Portsmouth, one count possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Clifton Jones, 48 of the 2000 block of Piedmont Avenue, Portsmouth, one count possession with intent to distribute heroin

Clark said the following individuals remain wanted on narcotics charges:

• James C. Whitehurst III, 21 of the 600 block of South Street, Portsmouth is wanted on three counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin and one count of possession with intent to distribute narcotics within 1000 feet of a school
• Deangelo Canty, 52 of the 100 block of Riverview Avenue, Portsmouth is wanted on one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Antwan Hoffler, 34 of the 300 block of Ansell Avenue, Portsmouth is wanted on two counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin
• Sylvester Dolophus Jones III, 59 of the 3700 block of Deep Creek Boulevard is wanted on one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin
