NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - USS Gonzalez pulled away from Naval Station Norfolk early Friday morning on a regularly scheduled deployment.

The Navy says USS Gonzalez will conduct maritime operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. The ship is relieving USS Oscar Austin.
The 5th Fleet includes the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea and east Africa.
The ship was commissioned in 1996 and is led by Cmdr. Chris H. Inskeep. There is a crew of 276 on board.
