NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Navy has delayed USS Barry's deployment to next Monday due to the oncoming Nor'easter.

The crew of Barry got to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown to load armaments and a decision was made to delay the deployment until the winter storm passed through the area.

It is not known if the crew will return to Naval Station Norfolk or stay in Yorktown.

The ship left Naval Station Norfolk heading to the European theater as part of the Phased Adaptive Approach, which protects European Allies, partners, U.S. forces in the region and the U.S. homeland against ballistic threats.

USS Barry last deployed in July of 2011.

“The crew has overcome a number of challenges and performed superbly in preparation for deployment,” said Cmdr. Thomas J. Dickinson, commanding officer. “They are motivated, positive, and ready to execute all assigned missions.”
