BALD HEAD ISLAND, N.C. (WAVY) - A 43-year-old man was pronounced dead after crews with the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a missing swimmer off Bald Head Island.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, crews responded to the coast of Bald Head Island around 7 p.m. Monday for a report of a missing swimmer. A Brunswick County dispatcher told crews four people had gone out swimming and only three made it back to shore.
A boat crew from Oak Island along with a helicopter crew from Elizabeth City responded to help with the search.
The man was located by the boating crew. He was then transferred to EMS crews and was pronounced dead by the medical examiner around 9 p.m.
His identity has not been released.
