SEALs to lose pay over classified leaks

WASHINGTON (WAVY/AP) - Seven Navy SEALs will lose a month of pay for disclosing classified material in connection to a video game, according to officials.

LTC Jim Gregory with the Office of the Secretary of Defense told WAVY.com two senior chief special operators and five chief special operators received punishments of a punitive letter of reprimand and forfeiture of ½ month’s pay for two months. The punishments were handed down during a non-judicial punishment hearing Wednesday.

The SEALs were charged with violation of Article 92: Orders violation, misuse of command gear and violation of Article 92: Dereliction of duty, disclosure of classified material for the role with a Medal of Honor video game.

Specifics of their acts were not disclosed by Gregory.

The deputy commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, Rear Adm. Garry Bonelli, issued a statement acknowledging that nonjudicial punishments had been handed out for misconduct, but he did not offer any details.

"We do not tolerate deviations from the policies that govern who we are and what we do as sailors in the United States Navy," Bonelli said. He alluded to the importance of honoring nondisclosure agreements that SEALs sign.
