Sailors read to Pre-K students

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Sailors from USS Newport News read to pre-kindergarten students in Newport News May 17 as part of the Mayors' Book Club .
The book of the month is Dex, The Heart of a Hero by Caralyn Buehner. The book was read to students Thursday and each student received a copy of the book.
"I am excited that sailors from the city's namesake ship are volunteering their time through the Mayors' Book Club," said Newport News Mayor McKinley Price. "This shows that these sailors not only understand the importance of giving back to the community, they also understand the importance of reading to children and developing a love for books early in life."
