NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk Southern unveiled a specially painted locomotive honoring veterans Monday morning.
A ceremony took place at Norfolk Southern’s Lamberts Point facility on Redgate Avenue to commemorate the painting. The locomotive is painted with special colors that pay tribute to veterans.
A company spokesman says the military and railroad are made for each other.
“They find that working for a railroad is not a whole lot different than being in the military,” Robing Chapman with Norfolk Southern told WAVY.com. “In terms of job requirements, the culture is somewhat similar and we make an active effort to recruit veterans because they make excellent employees.”
The veterans locomotive will haul freight over the next few years.
