WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (AP) — - The Navy plans to begin conducting a field carrier landing practice at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia's Eastern Shore this summer.

Officials said Thursday the Navy determined the operations would have no significant environmental impacts. The site was selected over the Emporia-Greensville Regional Airport.

The Navy says the E-2 Hawkeye and C-2 Greyhound aircraft will conduct up to 20,000 passes annually at the site.

Officials have said the twin engine, turboprop aircraft are quieter than jet aircraft.

Operations are expected to begin sometime this summer.
