VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - USS Fort McHenry, an amphibious landing dock ship, will depart from Fort Story on July 10 for a five month deployment as part of an African Partnership Station (APS).

U.S. Sailors and Marines, along with a joint international staff, will provide African naval and marine personnel with training to increase regional and host nation governance of territorial waters and exclusive economic zones.

Fort McHenry will make stops in France, Ireland and Romania before reaching Western and Central Africa. They plan to conduct similar maritime security operations, improve combined forces interoperability and maintain strategic access there.
