YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) - Veterans Day was extra special Sunday in Yorktown for veterans recently returning from combat.
Veterans received a hero’s welcome at the YWCA when Operation Homefront partnered with RiteAid to provide 300 welcome home kits filled with personal care items to help smooth the transition into everyday life.
They also gave them fully stocked wellness kits containing a wide range of necessary household items in addition to personal care essentials for wounded service members. There was also a commemorative walk and a BBQ lunch, all to say thank you to the veterans and their families.
“We have hundreds of thousands of military families in this community who sacrifice and serve all the time and RiteAid is a great partner with the community,” Carol Berg with Operation Homefront told WAVY.com. “They had a desire to come as part of their anniversary and say thank you to these veterans and to provide some resources to them and some product to them that they may not have the opportunity to get.”
Operation Homefront is a program dedicated to meeting the needs of injured service members by providing emergency, financial and other assistance to wounded warriors and the families of our service members.
