FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A Fort Bragg soldier shot by a Fayetteville police officer earlier this month has died.

Twenty-seven-year-old Staff Sgt. Mark Lewis Salazar was shot by officers in the driveway of his family's home in Fayetteville on May 5. A 911 caller told police Salazar was standing in his front yard firing off shots at 3 a.m.

Police say they shot Salazar after he pointed his gun at them.

He died May 12 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Salazar had served as a graphic illustrator for the Army Special Operations Command's 4th Military Information Support Group.

The State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting. The three Fayetteville police officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave.
