PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Coast Guard crews medevaced a 60-year-old man off a ship 30-miles east of Morehead City, N.C. on June 18.
Crews from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and Coast Guard Station Fort Macon responded to the rescue with both a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat.
According to a press release from the Coast Guard, a member with the Ship Arrival Notification System reported around 6:15 p.m. that a passenger aboard a 266-foot cargo ship called Svendborg had fallen and had reported head trauma.
Crwes from the motor life boat boarded the Svendborg and prepared the victim to be lifted into the Jayhawk. The man was hoisted from the Svendborg to the Jayhawk and transported to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
