Carrier Air Wing 8 gets new commander

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Capt. Daniel W. Dwyer assumed command as Commander, Carrier Air Wing ( CVW) 8 on May 22.

Former commander, Capt. Jeffrey A. Davis, commanded CVW-8 since December 2010. His next assignment is to the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington DC.

The change-of-command ceremony took place at NAS Oceana.

CVW-8 includes 1,700 officers and enlisted personnel and 69 aircraft. The air wing is assigned to USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) and is comprised of F/A-18 Hornet/Super Hornet squadrons VFA-213 “Blacklions,” VFA-31 “Tomcatters,” VFA-15 “Valions,” and VFA-87 “Golden Warriors.”
