FORT EUSTIS, Va. (WAVY) - The top Army drill sergeants of 2012 were named in a ceremony at Fort Eustis on June 29, 2012.
The U.S. Army chose Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Heilman, of Fort Jackson, S.C., as the 2012 active duty U.S. Army Drill Sergeant of the Year. Staff Sgt. Jarod Moss, of the 95th Reserve Division was chosen as the 2012 Army Reserve Drill Sergeant of the Year.
Heilman and Moss competed with four other drill sergeants in a four-day competition which, according to a press release, tested their knowledge of Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills. Each candidate had to appear before a board of command sergeants major to test their knowledge of leadership.
