Norfolk-based USS Eisenhower is currently deployed, working to keep the peace in the volatile Strait of Hormuz.
Eisenhower doesn't just cruise the waters, but also deploys jet squadrons and helicopters to observe for any suspicious activity. The strike group commander says the American presence in these waters ensures stability against any country that would want to close the strait.
"So our presence ensures that economic prosperity can begin by those countries that want to use the Strait of Hormuz for economics, for oil transit, for any import that are coming in," Commander Michael Manazir said.
