NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Norwegian diesel electric submarine, the HNoMS Utvaer (S303), arrived at Naval Station Norfolk on Monday for a port visit.
Officials say the arrival of the Utvaer marks the first time a Norwegian submarine has pulled into a United States port.
According to the Navy, the Utvaer will play a part in anti-submarine training while operating together with other U.S. Navy vessels. The submarine is joined by the Norwegian AEGIS frigate, F 310 Fridtjof Nansen, which is currently in port at Naval Station Norfolk.
The submarine and frigate will operate together with the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) Carrier Strike Group during their upcoming Composite Unit Training Exercise (COMPTUEX) underway period.
