VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - About 100 Soldiers assigned to Detachment 19, Alpha Company, 48th Combat Support Hospital deployed Thursday.
The Soldiers left Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story for Kuwait for a nine-month deployment. They will provide medical support to deployed forces based at a hospital in Kuwait.
Capt. Tamela Mitchenor is the officer in charge.
"The soldiers here are ready to do what they do best which is to save lives," Capt. Mitchenor said.

"This is very difficult to watch him walk away and you know, not knowing from one day to the next if he's safe or if he's not," Kelly Craft said about her husband.
The soldiers stand together, unlike their counterparts in Washington, D.C.
"We'll let Congress worry about what they supposed to worry about we got to, we're about keeping our country safe," Army father Willie Johnson said.
