Tides top Paw Sox at Harbor Park

Brandon Snyder collected three hits and drove in two, leading the Tides to a 4-2 win over Pawtucket Wednesday night at Harbor Park.

Snyder doubled in the second inning and singled in the seventh before connecting on a two-run double in the eighth that gave the Tides a 4-0 lead. The 22-year-old entered the contest having gone just 2-for-17 in his first five games since being promoted from Double-A Bowie, but his three-hit night helped the Tides win for the second time in their last nine games.

Tides starter Dave Hernandez had a very strong outing, as he worked four perfect innings before giving way to Ross Wolf (4-2) to start the fifth. Wolf and Alberto Castillo then combined to pitch four shutout innings before the Pawsox rallied with two runs in the final frame off of Bob McCrory.

Hernandez struck out four, throwing 28 of his 40 pitches for strikes.

The contest was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings before Jolbert Cabrera broke the scoreless tie with a solo homer in the sixth off of Red Sox starter Michael Bowden (3-4). Justin Christian later added an RBI single to help pace Norfolk's offense.

The Tides and Pawsox will continue their four-game series with a Thursday afternoon contest, as David Pauley (5-5, 3.76) will take the hill for Norfolk against Enrique Gonzalez (6-6, 5.35). First pitch is scheduled for 12:15.
