Plenty of options as Syracuse replaces QB Nassib

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Spring practice begins next week for the Syracuse Orange, and the biggest task facing rookie coach Scott Shafer is deciding who will be quarterback.

Three from last year — Charley Loeb, John Kinder and Terrel Hunt — are on the roster heading to spring ball, and two more, Austin Wilson of Pennsylvania and Mitch Kimble of Illinois, are among 19 recruits.

Loeb, a left-hander, has the most experience, but that's not saying much. He's played in 29 games, going 4 for 6 for 41 yards.

The position was potent in Ryan Nassib's final year. Last season with a new up-tempo, no-huddle attack, Nassib set single-season school records for passing yards (3,749), touchdown passes (26), completions (284), passing yards per game (288.4), and total offense (3,891) in leading Syracuse to an 8-5 record capped by a 38-14 victory over West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl.
